Things to consider when booking Norfolk Unity Brass
What do you need from the band?
Have a clear idea of what you’d like the band to do. Are we playing music for a church service, background music for a village fete, a formal sit-down concert with an audience or anything in between?
If you have specific pieces of music in mind, let us know in good time as we might not already have it in our library, but may be able to source it with enough notice.
What can I expect from Norfolk Unity Brass?
You can expect a professional service from our amateur, but passionate musicians. We regularly play a wide variety of music from Billie Eilish to Brahms, hymns to holiday season favourites at a range of events and venues across Norfolk each year.
We usually play for one or two hours maximum – brass playing is hard, physical work! A typical concert format would be 2 x 45/50 minute sets, with an interval in between (during which refreshments may be served).
What should I provide for the band?
Most importantly a suitable space to play – ideally a level surface with a hard standing no smaller than 5m wide x 4m deep. We regularly perform outdoors, but a shelter is always appreciated – both from the rain and wind which doesn’t always agree with our music stands!
We would need around 30 armless chairs, a secure separate area to store instrument cases during the performance (if possible) and good access for private cars with nearby parking.
The band are providing the music and would expect you to provide the venue / event and associated things – such as people to staff the ticket desk, refreshments for the interval (and the people to serve them).
What about the finances?
Norfolk Unity Brass has a range of options available to suit all budgets.
Some hirers pay us a flat fee for our services, which vary according to the kind of event and what is required from the band. In some cases (such as formal concerts) we can work with you on sharing the outlays (advertising, ticket sales etc.) and taking a share of the proceeds rather than a flat fee.
Many concert organisers serve the audience refreshments during the interval for a donation, or run a raffle to build on the event’s profitability.
